IMPORTANCE OF VASTU DIRECTIONS

There are total eight cardinal directions North, South, East, and West  and the point where any of the two directions meet is called intercardinal or ordinal point like NE, SE, SW, NW. These directions are given a lot of importance in Vastu Shastra as they combine the benefits of two directions in totality.

Following our Shastras, paying reverence to the Lords of these eight directions, one may benefits eternally with success, health and prosperity. 

DIRECTIONS AS PER VASTU

North Direction 
(Uttar, उत्तर दिशा) उदीची Udichi Directed by lord Vayu that brings us good health, strength and longevity is the cause of change in course of business, friendship and enmity.
South Direction 
(Dakshin, दक्षिण दिशा) अवाचि Avachi The direction of Yama (the god of death) who eradicates evil forces and bestows wealth, crops and pleasure.
East Direction 
(Poorab, पूरब) प्राची Prachi Governed by lord Indra (the king of Gods) who bestows wealth and pleasures of life.
West Direction 
(Paschim, पश्चिम) प्रतीची Pratichi Lord Varun (the lord of rains) governs the west and bestows his blessings in the form of natural water-rain, brings prosperity and pleasures of life.
North-East
North-East (Ishanya, ईशान) Supervised by lord Ishaan, of North East fountain wealth, health and success and lead wisdom, knowledge towards us.
South-East Direction
South-East Direction (Agneya, अग्नि) Governed by lord of fire- Agni who blesses with good personality and resources. A source of health as fire is associated with cooking and food.
South-West Direction
South-West Direction (Nairutya, नैऋत्य) Niruti, the God who protects us from evil foes governs the South West and is a source of character, demeanor, case of longevity and death.
North-East
North-West Direction (Vayavya, वायु) Directed by lord Vayu that brings us good health, strength and longevity is the cause of change in course of business, friendship and enmity.

A natural law based on architecture and the energy of elements and directions, Vastu is the plinth upon which many ancient structures (religious and monumental) are erect.  Five important elements of Vastu shastra are:

Fire अग्नि, Water जल, Earth पृथ्वी, Air / Wind – वायु and Space 

These elements are connected to the four cardinal directions (north,south,east,west) and four inter cardinal (north east, south east, north west, south west) directions of the compass. Each Vastu direction relates to an element and impacts life in different aspects. A structure accurately erect about Vastu diminishes major hurdles in a family. 

To save on energy and aiming to harvest health, prosperity and bliss, it is important to see the orientation of a building. A living place and its direction are inter related about the the rotational scenarios of the planets with respect to north. Vaastu is an ancient Indian design philosophy that aims at striking a balance between human lifestyle and the natural environment. This realized by valuing directional orientation and movement in space that proves good for global architects as well.

In Vastu Shastra, it is necessary to know the direction your premises faces in order to assess various factors. The only way to find this out is with a compass and even then there are many different interpretations of
what you get back from the reading.

Orientation of a building is important to save energy and to build a better house design, which would be comfortable for living simultaneously gives positive energy, good health, prosperity and wealth to the occupants.
